Amen to that!! I coach lacrosse in Florida with U9's up through HS. It's fun and I enjoy teaching the game, but in a State where all sports can be played year round, and youth sports are a major industry, we are struggling to maintain balance. To add to the frustration, there are zero D-III programs in Florida, so every college/university is either club status ($800-$1500 pay-to-play), or offers scholarships at D-I or D-II. Parents don't understand that even if their child were lucky enough to earn a scholarship, it would never come close to covering all the expenses they have incurred with club teams & travel over the 5 years leading up to college!! I am thinking of writing a primer for parents on basic math and common sense in youth sports!! I love your blog, keep at it.
