Thank God for the Halesworths of Lacrosse

Photo of Dave Halesworth doing is thing during the inaugural game for the Legend’s Lacrosse Program’s1-2 grad team. We played a King’s Land Point Park, in Sleepy Hollow, New York against Somers and both teams played very well.

Yesterday I received an email blast from Dave Halesworth, the guy who is single handily (with his wife’s support that is) started Legends Lacrosse, the youth lacrosse program here in the Tarrytowns, two towns just outside of New York City. Dave wrote, “Well, you thought you were rid of me, but guess again! It’s go time! The indoor lacrosse clinics are upon us, and it’s time to prepare for another exciting Legends Lax season.” Dave is tenacious and every successful grass roots lacrosse program needs fans (short for fanatics) like him. Dave grew up on Long Island, one of the country’s lacrosse hot beds, but he did not play lacrosse. Instead Dave excelled at football. He went on to Ithaca College where he became friends with lacrosse players like the current Williams College Men’s Lacrosse Coach George McCormack, still one of Dave’s good friends. As those of us who have been around the sport know, lacrosse his very contagious and Dave as a full blown case of the disease. As a Syracuse lacrosse alum, I am glad there is no cure for him and I hope he spreads the disease throughout other parts of Westchester County. More on Dave and my own youth lacrosse experience in the coming days.
